Welcome to DebateMax. This Privacy Policy explains how Brian Aleman (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, stores, and protects your personal information when you use the DebateMax mobile application (“App”). By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the App.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address (when signing in with Apple or Google)
- Display name (from your Apple or Google account, if provided)
- Profile information you add within the App (such as age range)
- Authentication provider (Apple Sign In or Google Sign In)
2.2 Debate Activity Data
When you use the App’s core features, we collect:
- Debate session records — topics debated, session timestamps, and mode (e.g., Daily Challenge, 1-on-1, Rate My Argument)
- Performance scores and metrics — including clarity, reasoning, logic, evidence usage, composure, and persuasiveness scores
- AI-generated feedback text (once AI features are enabled)
- Session duration and speaking time
2.3 Audio Recordings
The App requests access to your device’s microphone to capture spoken arguments during debate sessions.
- Audio is processed solely to evaluate and score your spoken performance.
- Audio recordings are not permanently stored on our servers after scoring is complete.
- We do not use audio for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to your debate session.
2.4 Device and Usage Information
We may automatically collect:
- Device type and operating system version
- App version
- Anonymous usage statistics (e.g., features accessed, session frequency)
- Crash reports and error logs
We do not collect precise GPS location.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account
- Deliver and improve core App features (debate sessions, scoring, feedback)
- Track your performance history and progress streaks
- Generate AI-powered scoring and coaching feedback (current and future feature)
- Respond to your support requests
- Detect and prevent abuse, fraud, or violations of our Terms of Service
- Comply with applicable legal obligations
4. AI Processing
DebateMax uses and plans to expand use of artificial intelligence to:
- Score and evaluate spoken debate arguments
- Generate debate prompts
- Provide coaching feedback and skill assessments
When AI processes your data:
- Your debate content (audio or transcribed text) may be sent to third-party AI providers for processing.
- AI providers are contractually required to process your data only for the purpose of generating your results and are prohibited from using it to train general AI models without your consent.
- We will update this policy to identify specific AI providers as they are integrated.
5. Data Storage and Security
- Your account data, debate results, and scores are stored using Supabase, a cloud database and authentication provider. Supabase stores data on infrastructure hosted in the United States.
- We implement industry-standard security measures, including encrypted connections (TLS/HTTPS) and access controls.
- No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share your data in limited circumstances:
- Service providers: Third-party vendors who assist in operating the App (e.g., Supabase for database hosting, AI providers for scoring). These parties are contractually bound to protect your data and use it only as directed by us.
- Legal compliance: If required by law, court order, or governmental authority.
- Safety: To protect the rights, property, or safety of users or the public.
- Business transfer: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case users will be notified.
7. Third-Party Authentication
DebateMax offers sign-in via:

We receive only the information these providers share with us (typically email and display name). We do not receive your Apple or Google account passwords.
8. Data Retention
- Your account data is retained as long as your account is active.
- Debate results and performance history are retained to provide your progress tracking features.
- If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
9. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and associated data
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Export a copy of your data

Deleting Your Account
You may request account deletion at any time by contacting us or using the account deletion option within the App (if available). Upon deletion, your profile, debate history, and scores will be permanently removed from our active systems.
10. Children’s Privacy
DebateMax is intended for users who are 13 years of age or older.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately and we will take steps to delete it.
Users between 13 and 18 should review this policy with a parent or guardian.
11. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect and how it is used
- Request deletion of your personal information
- Opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information)
- Non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights
